Damned Annoying

I had one heck of a week at work. Our trucks are fairly well maintained but this week just took the cake. Thursday the one I was driving seems to have some kind of problem we can not diagnose but it still runs. Friday I started out with my regular truck and everything was fine until I left Buckhead heading for midtown. Half way there the heat needle went wild and the power steering went dead. I made it to my destination but when I went back to the truck I noticed a small oil spot on the ground which at that time I thought was water. On investigation I found out that the fan belt had broken and in the process had severed a hose to the transmission.
I called for a wrecker and had the truck towed to the dealership after a 2 hour wait. My boss brought me another truck that had just returned from its route. We transferred the stuff and I took off in it. After a few miles I noticed that the this truck was acting erratic..I thought the turbo was going out but it kept running so I finished my route ..at times getting down to 25 miles an hour on the freeway making all the folks behind me ecstatic I am sure. When I finished my route I limped the truck back the same dealership that I had taken the first one of the day.
When my boss came to get me he had to bring the Thursday truck for me to drive back to the office. Fortunately it was still working well enough for me to make it back to the office and I finnally got to go home approximately 4 hours late but in one piece. I found this little account about a Civil War General who seemed to have a similar experience so I thought I would post it here:
General John Alexander McClernand, commanded infantry during the Civil War. Having already had several horses shot from under him during the fighting, the general was again on horseback with an aide holding his horse’s reins when a Rebel bullet severed the reins. ‘This is getting damned annoying,’ McClernand reportedly exclaimed.

I know how he felt.

Wow what a day !

HOT HOT HOT I did manage to find a few caches (7) and get about 20 or so waymarks backlogged but it sure as heck was hot. I intended to make it to Alabama but only made it as far as Cave Sping. It was really fun but it drained my energy BAD. Now I have to start posting the waymarks I did and trying to clear up a little of the backlog. I learned a lot today about a lot of different things and that is what I do all this for. Some of the information will never come in useful but still it is interesting.

A fun weekend

All in all it was a fun weekend. The 4th was kind of a bust because the Cartersville fireworks display was less that expected but we still got a chance to get out and view it.

Saturday morning was fun since I got see some of my geocaching buddies at a breakfast. Then finally completed the cache placement I have been working on for a couple of weeks. Also found some new waymarks and posted them on Waymarking.com. Saturday night we went to Hiram for the Paulding County fireworks display and it was good. Got to see 3 of the grandkids and daughter and son-in-law. That made it a good day.

Sunday I discovered that I had made a mistake in my new cache stages that led a couple of fellow geocachers astray as they tried to find it. I really thought I had double checked everything but one of the stages was incorrectly listed by me. I really feel bad that I did this since it cost my friends some time and gas.

Ummmm new Waymaking Category

I think Bisch has a hit with his new category proposal. I am already planning some posts to it. Oh the fun it would be if it gets past the votes.

Interesting weekend

I have family visitors this weekend. Our daughter and granddaughter and greatgranddaughter from Ohio are visiting . It is so hard to believe that I am a greatgrandpa AGAIN !!!!

I have been working on placing a new Geocache this weekend. It is a very hard Multi cache and I have pretty much finished the hard part of gathering all the information now I must get the physical cache stocked and placed.

Busy Weekend

Last night went to Ice Cream Summer Solice party on the square in Marietta. It was a fun event with 2 grandaughters and my wife. Lots of Geocaching friends. The weather was perfect and there was a church group there giving a free concert.

Today going to Newnan for a family picnic and some Geocaching.

Got to get moving... more later.

Father's Day

Had a great day with one of my sons, his wife, three of the grand kids. Intended to catch a few caches after the cookout but the nap was very good instead so tomorrow is another day. Heard from the other 3 kids and that was nice.

My one year Anniversary in Geocaching

Tomorrow is the first anniversary of my first Geocache find. It is a micro on a light pole at a Quick Trip near my home. ( I am now the owner of the cache through adoption) . It was the start of a fairly active pursuit of the sport/hobby of Geocaching. I guess I am addicted to this thing but I can think of addictions that are worse for me. I have learned a tremendous amount of history and seen things I never would have never seen pre-addiction. I am now a fairly accomplished hiker and much more observant person. I love the challenges and the people I have met.

Starting out

This is my first attempt to make a blog so I am sure it is going to look kind of clunky until I get the hang of it.
